We ate lunch with Obama

Not really, but we did do some fabulous things in DC and I'm sure we touched something or looked at something that the president once did too. There was so much to do in DC, it was tough to narrow it down. We mostly hit the National Mall. We stayed with my Aunt and Uncle in Maryland. On a typical day we would drive about an hour into DC, park, and then spend the rest of the day on foot sightseeing. Navigating in the car was a bit tricky and there were moments I thought we were going to die, but Logan handled the roads well and we survived.

We caught two frogs. We just couldn't resist pulling over and snatching them.

We passed a family of Geese each day on our walk. I wanted to pet one, but I think the family disowns them and pecks them to death if they are handled by humans. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Birds!

This is at the National Museum of Natural History. This nasty creature was the first to come out of the water and walk the Earth. It was a giant crustacean/scorpion thing. Truly alarming.

I love these. They are just like the animals we have today, but like the early versions that were a little bit defective so its funny.

Easter and other happenings

Here is the latest:

Easter was great (or as my preschool kids call it "Chickley day"). At preschool we did all sorts of Eastery events. We painted eggs, made bunny ears, and had an egg hunt. Logan and I didn't do much- Logan is preparing for the LSAT and finishing projects at school. The weird glowing picture is one of those projects. We did have a nice Easter dinner though and made our rats go on a mini egg hunt. Seidi had her baby on April 4th. Hooray!


This is Logan's project. Finally a success. He put jellyfish genes into yeast cells to make them glow green. Big deal right?

Happy Birthday Mckell!

Mckell is wonderful. She came up to spend the weekend with us. We went snowboarding at Beaver Mountain with her cousin Bryce who was fresh off the mission. It was a beautiful day. She's been gone for a year and a half and still outdid me on the slopes.
That evening we doubled dated with our friend Brayden. We went to the Indian Oven- my first exposure to Indian food. We loved it! I even got the lamb curry and was very impressed. We did some black light bowling which we all had a pretty lousy game. But luckily we found a lucky orange ball that saved the day. We headed back to our apartment for some 8 minute birthday cake (Happy Birthday Mckell!), Planet Earth, and games. It was super lucky fun!

Rat-tacular!

We feel that rats have been given a bad wrap and that it is our duty to clarify. A few facts about rats:
-They were responsible for the plague.....oh wait, scratch that
-They make great pets- of all the rodent pets they are the cleanest and friendliest
-They love people and will learn your voice. You can call them by name and they will come
-They are smart and easily trained. You can teach them to fetch, stand, sit, etc
-When a rat is happy, it grinds it teeth which sounds like a kitten purring

Like the old saying goes- don't knock it till you've tried it.

birthdays, bowling, rats, and a homecoming

I figured its time for my monthly post.

Logan hit the big 25 last month. A quarter of a century. For his birthday I did a rock theme. It involved the Red rock cafe, rocky road ice cream, and the movie Rocky. We also went to the movie Valkyrie. It wasn't part of the plan. We were supposed to go rock climbing but Logan was a little bit ill. All in all we had a wonderful time.



A couple weeks ago we had Madee and Lafe up to hang out with us. We've been wanting to do this since we moved up here and were glad Alice and Bruce allowed it. We went blacklight bowling (which by the way I've discovered is a hidden talent of mine), snowboarding at Beaver mountain and to the USU basketball game. We also watched lots of Planet Earth. Then to top it off, Bruce and Alice took us to breakfast! It was a good time and we'd love to have them up again.



Mckell is finally home from her mission (Long Beach Cali). Hooray! My texting has probably tripled since she's been home. Oh how I've missed her laugh. We went to Gunnison to hear her speak- wonderful, just wonderful.



We also went bowling while we were in Gunnison and went to Wingers with Mir, Glen, Dave, Steve, Gracy, and Madee. We had a little wager going. I won the first game, but in the end fell short of the $6.00 cash bucket.



And finally, Valentines day. We've come to the realization that despite our best efforts- we are white trash and cheap. We had big intentions on V day but in the end decided to sleep in, go swimming, eat at Cafe Rio and buy some pet rats. There you have it. And I might add it was a wonderful, wonderful day.
On Friday we had a Valentines Tea at preschool. Amy, Alicia and I made some kickin Valentine bags for one another.

snowmen vs. elves

Oh how I love the holidays. Our December was very eventful. We took some pictures for a Christmas card in the park next to our house. Logan is always a trooper to let me take pictures and play with the camera. We also came upon some ugly Christmas sweaters that Jason and Mysha had that we just couldn't pass up taking a picture in them too. We found a tiny tree that we decorated with my dollar store ornaments. It turned out lovely.
We did lots of snowboarding this month. We used our Warren Miller tickets and went to the Canyons boarding. It was fun, but I felt a little out of place there. There were some rather snooty people there. It was still fun though. We went to Gunnison on Christmas Eve. Over the break we went to a couple parties, boarded and relaxed. We both ended up catching a 24 hour bug. I swear every time we go to Gunnison we get sick.
Madee and Lafe were troopers to come snowboarding with us so much. We went three times up to Fairview (nothing like free boarding) and we treated ourselves by going to Brian Head once. Everyone has improved so much since we first started. The last day we went to Fairview we had a huge bunch with us. Participants included: me, Logan, Lafe, Madee, Colby Caldwell aka Bite Size, Glen and his brother Dave, Hannah and B Rad Jackson. It was a great trip other than the fact Bradly got a concussion. I wasn't happy about that. Hannah and I had a little competion to see who could make it to the bottom of the hill with the most water in their bottle. It was a tie. I also crocheted a lot of beanies because of all the boarding. I made 6 to be exact. All in all, our families spoiled us and it was another terrific season. We are so blessed and have so much to be thankful for. G
