ABC & 123

Jack seems to be in super learning mode these days.  He loves naming colors, counting and recognizing letters.  True, he isn't always right and it will take a while to master these, but he still amazes me that he has a pretty good grasp of them.  He has his colors pretty much down as well as the letters of his name and about 6 other letters.  Numbers are hit in miss but he usually gets 4.  I love when I hear him "counting" things to him self.  He has started to point out letters and numbers on license plates or cereal boxes or other children's shirts.  He loves Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and it is hilarious to hear him sing along to the alphabet song.

The other night we did a glow in the dark bath.  Jack started stressing at first when I turned off the lights in the bathroom but was immediately captivated when I pulled out the glow sticks.  He named each color over and over and wouldn't stop talking about "glow ticks".

Jack's favorite letter is J, but he calls it G-Jack instead of J for Jack.  It all just kind of blends together as one word too.  We will have to work on that one.

The Fourth Base Felons

So here are some law school lingo words that I will clarify before this post.  Logan is a first year student in law school so he is called a 1L.  Next year he will be a 2L and then a 3L.  Also all of the incoming students get divided into sections and are given a letter.  Logan is in Section F.  These are students he has most of his classes with and does some activities with.  One tradition and almost requirement of 1L's is softball.  Each section is a team and they all take turns playing each other.  Logan has 1 game a week.  They had to come up with a name for their team that starts with their section letter F and Logan helped them decided on Fourth Base Felons.  It's fun to go watch them play ball, Jack loves watching dad.  And at the end of the game they will sometimes have a treat.  Like last time they had pizza and beer.  Or the time before that they had beer.   And the time after that they had beer.  See the trend?  Haha.  Since Logan is one of two people in his section who have kids, Jack gets quite a bit of attention from Logan's classmates and they are all really nice to play with them when Jack throws softballs at their heads.

Little bit of lately

Here is what we have been up to lately.  We had a little pinic for FHE in our back yard.  Jack ate two hot dogs.  Jack loves to play ball with his dad.  We bough him a basketball of his very own but still insists to use Logan's basketball.  We also went to a Copeley Picnic that was catered with yummy fried chicken.  I was lucky enough to volunteer and get to run the sno cone machine.  I was secretly bummed but it turned out to be  pretty fun in the end.  I am an expert sno cone maker now.  They had a magician too.  He was no Houdini but still fun.

I helped do sno cones at the Family Housing Picnic.  I made Logan's sno cone special with 7 pumps of syrup.  It was disgusting but I double dared him to eat the whole thing.  He couldn't do it.

At first, I made Jack's with just ice but he quickly caught on that thats not how they are supposed to be.

Louisa Air Show

Last weekend we took Jack to the Louisa Air Show.  It was basically a dream come true for Jack.  They had a parking lot full of planes to look at, planes doing tricks in the sky, a fire truck, balloons, and carnival booths full of food and things to buy.  

He got to "drive" a plane.

And drive a firetruck. 

Some of the little planes were pretty loud.  I thought it would upset him but he just laughed.

The planes were fun to watch.  They could do some crazy stuff.

As we were about to leave I said to Logan how someday I hope I get to see those people that get strapped to the top of planes.  He made fun of me and said that was only in cartoons.  Then we turned to our right and what do we see......a Wing Walker!  So we stayed another half an hour to watch her.  Its nuts.  She starts flying the plane, then just climbs to the top of the wing and her partner takes over flying.  She isn't strapped in or anything.  Then she walks around the top and hangs in different positions.

On our way home Logan spotted a turtle stuck in the middle of the road about to be smashed.  So he stopped and grabbed him and we took him home.  We named him Tangires the Turtle.  He was adventurous and the next day he had jumped out of his little home we made him and he was gone.

Jack liked to scare him and make him hide in his shell.  It was probably for the best he ran away.

Copeley Family Housing

When we were looking for an apartment in C'ville, we weren't sure where to move, but we asked around and decided on the Copeley Family Housing.  I wasn't sure if we had made the best choice at first, but quickly we fell in love with it and are right at home here in Copeley.  One of the fun perks of living in family housing is the familiy housing association puts on free events each month. There was a picnic with free pizza and a bounce house last week which was a lot of fun.  Later in the month there is apple picking, bowling, and a magician.  Jack loved all the kids everywhere and of course he loved the pizza and food.

C'Ville

We have already grown fond of Charlottesville.  It is very friendly, our ward and neighbors are great, and there is lots to do.  We have been busy with school and discovering our new town.  We live in the family housing on campus which we feel was a smart move because its super cheap (relative to the rest of Virginia), great location, and lots of fun families as our neighbors.  Family housing is very diverse and we find ourselves being in the minority here, and its fun to hear so many languages on one playground.  The law school is a 5 minute walk from our door and Logan gets to come home each day for lunch which is nice.

We play outside a lot and there is a playground right across the street.  I put some goldfish in Jack's water table the other day.  They didn't last long.    There are so many parks, pools and splash pads that its going to take us a while to get to all of them.  One of our favorite activities so far is Carter Mountain Orchard.  We picked our own apples and peaches.  Super fun.  Jack loved it and still talks about it.

Carter Mountain.  An Orchard where you can pick your own fruit.  Genius isn't it, to trick us into doing the work and we think its fun.

In the 45 minutes we were there, Jack had eaten an entire apple and a peach.

And when I say he ate a whole apple, I really mean he eats the WHOLE apple if I don't pay attention.
